What Day Is It?

You know you are having a great vacation when you can’t remember the day of the week. That has happened on more than one occasion since our journey began. Oh yeah, it’s Saturday.

Today was a very full day. We started out in Havre, Montana, went north on Wild Horse Road (no, I’m not making this up), hit a bird that flew into my left shin (ouch!), entered the Wild Horse Port to Canada, took a picture of the Alberta sign, re-entered the U.S.A. at the same port, had fun explaining to the U.S.A. border patrol why we were only in Canada for about 15 minutes, rode east on a scenic route to Sidney (Montana, not Australia), raced a speeding train, passed a Motorcycle Alert sign, rode on a gravel road under construction by the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs), then went to a rodeo in Sidney. Whew! Today was a VERY full day.

One says pictures are worth a thousand words, so here are some shots of today’s journey. Enjoy!

Horses in front of Bear Paw Mountains, Montana. We have seen many, many farms with beautiful horses.

Little birds were all over the road to Canada, playing chicken with the cars that passed. Tim called them “deer birds” because they would dart toward the bike like a deer.

Waiting for the “pilot car.” Interesting way to do construction – I’ve never seen anything like it. Rather than letting us go on our own, a truck leads the way to hold down the speed and numbers of cars on the gravel road.

Gravel road on the way to Sidney, MT.

This construction worker told us of a cut-off road that took us around most of the gravel road. I asked if I could take her picture and she said, “sure, but I don’t know why you would want to.” “Because you helped us,” I replied. She was very friendly, as are many people we have met in Montana.

Above is a video of us riding beside a speeding train with the mountains of Montana in the background.

A great way to end the day – we went to a rodeo in eastern Montana with some grand champion bull riders and broncos. These are some of my favorites.

Day Six Stats: Total 2400+ miles to date, and we added a country to our ABCs.

Tomorrow: On to Spearfish, South Dakota and then a ride around the Black Hills on Monday.
