From Houston to Dallas

Today was a bit nerve wrecking as we tried to anticipate the unexpected.  It was our first attempt hitching up the Fifth Wheel for a move from one location to another.  It felt like we were turned upside down as I had just returned from a week-long teaching intensive in Arlington, and today was our anniversary.  Bystanders offered loads of assistance as we carefully packed up the RV step by step.  Lock the cabinets and doors, place potential propelling objects in a safe place, crank down the antenna, pull in the sewer line, unhook the water (oh yeah, turn off the water first), raise the legs and stabilizers, slide in the sliders, back up the truck, hook up the hitch, remove the tire chocks, and a hundred other things to remember.  The sliders in the bunkhouse were the most tedious, requiring a few moves back and forth while watching the space between them vanish, thus adjusting our decision to use the floor space for storage.  A few little things still need a “home” but for the most part we had no major breakage.

Our dog, as it turns out, is a great truck passenger.  She smiled while laying on her bed in the back seat of the cab, owning the seat next to her human sister, pointing her little nose at the a/c vent.  Elizabeth and Midge have developed a special bond while walking to the park together, providing lots of love and attention to each other.  Elizabeth takes good care of her.  A little whine noted bladder needs, but overall she fit right into our RV travel routine.

A Shady Creek spot awaited us just outside of Dallas, near Frisco.  Shady Creek is a well-groomed, friendly, Christian-owned RV community.  They have an activity center with a pool table, swimming pool, laundry room, and a full kitchen in the event we want to cook in a real oven.  A small nature trail winds next to an enclosed dog park as well.  Although we are still waiting for nature scenes to find us (our site backs up to a storage unit), this site is much more stable than the last.

In case you are wondering, we did encounter one glitch upon set up that nearly taught us some new words.  One of the sliders in the bunkhouse got caught on the wardrobe door and tore it off its hinges during set-up.  Bummer…  On the bright side, we finished setting up in time to enjoy a steak dinner at Texas Land and Cattle, to celebrate 27 years of marriage.
