Last Supper

Tonight we ate our last (official) dinner in the Fifth Wheel.  Tomorrow, Tim picks up the keys to our new rental house, and we start moving in.  While we ate our slow-cooked steaks, grilled over a charcoal fire, we reminisced about things we would miss, and not miss, about life in an RV.

Things we will miss:

  • The closeness, such as spending time at Panera Bread or Chick fil A as a family, and just being together on a daily/hourly basis.
  • Corpus Christi and the wonderful water views.
  • Traveling and visiting churches around Texas for an in-depth stay.
  • Going to the bath house on a mother/daughter outing.
  • Taking only five minutes to clean the house.
  • Fewer dishes – get them done, dry and put away in just a few minutes.
  • Fun times like teaching Midge to fetch and creatively designing new dog toys.
  • Sitting outside on the warm, sunny days.
  • The flexibility of online schooling.
  • Working on the “porch” while feeling like we are on vacation.
  • Decorating for Christmas and laughing until our sides split open.
  • Feeling like a real Texan in our big, monster truck.
  • Learning how to do things differently; thinking outside the box.
  • Setting our own school schedule, and sleeping in on occasion.
  • Experiencing thunderstorms up close and personal.

Things we will not miss:

  • The closeness.  Elizabeth knows way too much about her parents that she wishes she would have never discovered.
  • The bugs.  Tiny, itty, bitty, little black sugar ants that pop up out of nowhere, and little baby roaches from time to time as well as crickets, spiders, ticks, and fun flying bugs that fly in from outdoors.
  • Forgetting to close the bathroom vent, and finding out it rained in the middle of the night (you only have to do that one time and you’ll never do it again).
  • Bumping our heads and other body parts as we cut the corners too quickly.
  • The beds.  Enough said.
  • Trying to find a spot level enough to please Tim’s OCD without an automatic leveling system.
  • Fixing things that break, and wondering what will break next.  Hey, it’s a house on wheels.
  • Smells that seem to come from nowhere.
  • Waking up in the middle of the night.
  • Dumping the gray and black tanks, and cleaning the hoses.
  • Wondering when the park will turn off the water, and whether we will wake up to our own hot water.
  • Limited outlets and poor internet connections.

All in all it’s been a great experience (although you may not be able to tell by our lists).  There are many fond moments to remember, and we are glad we did it.  But we thank the good Lord it is coming to an end!

Cheers!
