Still on the mend. I’m getting a little bored but enjoying the time to just relax and sleep whenever I feel like it. We watched Family Feud while eating lunch and then I fell asleep for about two hours. It’s easy to lose track of what day it is when lying around the house. If anyone wants to visit, please message me privately and I will be happy to give you my address. Your presence would be a welcome interruption at any time of day. 🙂
Catching up on my own “to do” list of things that require no lifting, and taking time for relaxing hobbies has also been fruitful, when I’m not checking Facebook or napping. Identifying birds has taken a front seat, as the multitude of species continue to visit my feeder. I have also started a new Bible study on spiritual leadership, and I enjoy sitting on the back porch swing every morning while sipping tea and reading Scriptures.
One nagging thing left undone has finally been wrapped up. Thanks to a little side trip in December we missed the deadline for turning in our HOG ABCs. Wow, 2012 seems like many years ago. On a whim I called the corporate office and explained my situation to the lady in charge of the ABCs. We had collected 82 points, from Texas to Canada, but never sent in the pictures. A little preoccupied with diagnosing and treatment, we missed the deadline. Would she be willing to give us our patches? That’s really all we cared about at this point. She was very kind. She said to send it in, and she will forward any prizes we would have won, if there are any left. Of course we can’t enter the sweepstakes, understandably since the contest is over. We printed our pictures over the weekend, and yesterday we sent off them all off. I enjoyed going through all the pictures and reminiscing our trip. I admit it; I love Harley Davidson!
Sometime today I also completed the not-so-fun task of matching up all my EOBs with medical bills and discovered one provider owes us some money. That’s always a nice surprise!
Here’s a lesson for anyone going through a serious illness. You really have to watch your medical claims closely. Match the bills to the EOB (Explanation of Benefits). Don’t pay more than your EOB indicates. Doctors and hospitals and pathologists and others will send a bill (at times) without first consulting the insurance company, making you think you owe more than you do. It’s not a common occurrence, and easy to overlook when there are so many of them pouring in, but it does happen. I finally got it all straight – I hope!
The feeling in my arm is slowly returning. It’s a weird sensation. Tingly and desensitized from the elbow up, but not altogether useless. At least I can type, but to relax my arm on the chair feels strange and awkward, like carrying dead weight. I talked to the nurse and she said it’s completely normal to have this much numbness. The swelling pushes on the nerves causing the numbness. Sometimes it lasts a few months. I do prefer numbness over the pain! I haven’t taken any pain medication since Sunday.
À la prochaine (Until next time) …
Glad to hear you are doing so well after such a serious surgery! That arm thing you mention sounds like my carpel tunnel symptoms…where you just can’t find a position to rest your arm. I’ve had it for many years and it comes and goes based on what I’ve done that pinches the nerve….good thing is if you keep it in the right position and wait for the swelling to go away, it will probably be as good as new. I’m glad its numbness vs pain….I’ll take that anytime…praying for you!
