When Tim and Elizabeth arrived back in Texas, she found 4 bluebird eggs in the nest. They are beautiful little blue eggs, perfectly formed. Elizabeth has been doing the nest watch for me, and sending me pictures. The momma is doing a good job of moving her eggs around so they can hatch properly. So far the predators have been staying away.
I remember telling mom about our nest box when we arrived at hospice, and showing off Elizabeth’s perfect picture of the nest with eggs. She always loved watching the little birds outside her patio, and often we would talk about the various finches and birds that visited our respective feeders. We talked about the squirrels, and both decided it was ok if they eat some of the food. Knowing we had bluebirds in our yard seemed to bring her joy, and she smiled as I commented that she should get to see them hatch, as they only incubate for about 14 days.
Well today there were three hatching, and one to go. I shared this with Mommy and even though she can’t open her eyes to see the picture taken by my sweet Elizabeth, I can’t help but believe she somehow heard me and knows that new life is forming. She made it until they hatched, and that made me happy.
Today she has not been nearly as rattly, and in fact she slept peacefully all day. Her breathing appeared less labored than the previous night. They rolled her on her side, and this helps her breathe more clearly. The nurses are still amazed at her strength, and they give me good reasons to be proud of her endurance. I’m not sure what she’s waiting for, but there must be some box that is yet to be checked before she decides to go. All in God’s timing.
