HARDATE 15185.6.4 This is the Captain’s Log. It’s Independence Day! We are watching the movie as I blog. Today is the 3rd day of our big summer trip. One channel is playing the movie Independence Day all day long, one right after another. Earlier this week, when we crossed through Roswell and thought about the 4th of July, we said we wanted to watch it. And so we did!
We had another beautiful day on the bike! We are in awe that the temperatures are so cool, so that I wear a jacket most of the time. Today we left Albuquerque around 7:00 AM, and crossed yet another time zone. Hot air balloons and hang gliders entertained us as we left the city. If anyone has a doubt that the train business is still in business, he or she should come through this region. We probably saw a dozen or more trains with many, many cars. It made for beautiful scenery as they steamed down the track in front of the prestigious mountains.
These (unedited) pictures are worth many words, but they can never take in the beauty of this magnificent place. Enjoy!Again we would get to our hotel too early to check in, so we decided to take a trip to the Grand Canyon. We did get rained on a few times, mostly sprinkles, and then it hit. On the way to Flagstaff back from the Canyon. A lightning bolt struck so close to us at one point Tim felt it in his thumb. I nearly fell off my seat. It was cold and our pants were wet (this was the one time we did not wear our rain pants, just our jackets and gators…bad choice). We were so glad to get to the hotel and have a nice hot shower.
We picked up 4 ABC points today…
1 state (Arizona)
1 city (Joseph City)
2 National Parks (Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest)
Until next time…
