Springfield – Home of Lincoln

On the way back from Minneapolis, we did some sight seeing mixed with a little history lesson. The Abraham Lincoln Museum is well worth the detour if you ever find yourself near Springfield, Illinois. Movies in 4D, a log cabin with wax figures and presidential tours of his life and office are only a few of the live lessons you will learn. Tim fully expected to be dozing after about an hour, but found the museum captivated his attention for the full two hours. In fact there was a brief thought of staying over another night to visit other Lincoln locations. It was amazing to us to learn the enormous amount of derision Lincoln received. This was evidenced by a hallway of political cartoons displayed with captions of Lincoln as animals and other deprecating pictures. We didn't have time to read them all, but could easily see that his enemies spared no punches. It makes one fully appreciate the strength of conviction and character Lincoln displayed.
