Praise the Lord, it seems to be working! Prayer is working. The chemo is working. All the things we are doing to fight this awful disease are already taking effect.
I went in for my follow-up with the oncologist today (Dr. Coscio). She was “amazed” at how well my body is responding after so few treatments. When she measured it seems the lump has dropped significantly in size (from 9 to 6 cm now) and she was unable to feel any swelling of the lymph nodes. The redness has completely disappeared from the breast, and it is no longer swollen or painful. Really, I noticed a difference after the first or second treatment, but it feels good to hear her say it as well.
We are still on the same path and will continue with chemo for 6 months, followed by a mastectomy. I asked about a double, and she said there is no reason to do that. I only have cancer in one breast, and the other is still fine. No reason to fix something that isn’t broken, and the risk of cancer in the other breast is minimal. Radiation sounds like it will still happen, but at this point we will wait and see.
I know it is the Lord making the chemo work more effectively. He is listening to the prayers of the Saints. He is looking down and answering our prayers. The doctor is amazed, and I look forward to giving Him even more glory as we move forward in treatment. Please keep the prayers coming! Thank you all!
so excited to hear how well you are doing. Will continue to pray for you and the family.
Thanks Robin. Prayers are working! 🙂
That’s a great news! I hope it will keep on at the same pace! take care
Yes, me too Caroline! Merci!
You are doing such a great job keeping on track and staying positive. By the way, I have never remembered scripture so I just make mine up to work for the situation I’m in. Still prayer and talk with Tim about the double masectomy you still have awhile before its time to make that decision. The cancer loves fatty tissue which our boobs are, Im going to even have my Transflap removed and the fat used to reconstruct during the 2nd cancer round. Just food for thought, xoxoxo
Hi Chris!
I know, fat is baaaad. But I’m told that as long as they are giving me steroids I can’t possibly lose weight. Of course that just sounded like permission to eat brownies and chocolate! I don’t think my doctor should have told me that (ha). I talked to the doctor about a double, and she doesn’t think it’s a good idea for a few reasons. 1) risk is low that it will occur in the other breast (and they will be watching me like a hawk for several years), 2) if something goes wrong in the removal of the good breast, this could hold up treatment on the cancerous one. The second reason seemed like a good enough reason to not do it…just in case. Plus, 3) it’s harder to recover from a double than a single. However, I’m seeing the breast surgeon on the 14th, so I’ll explore with her at that time.
Love you girl!
Cindy
Great news – we will continue praying for your complete recovery. PTL
Thank you Irene! We plan to be cancer free before next year.
Wonderful news! Did they say you could take iodine?
Hi Caroalann,
They are putting in a similar category to antioxidants (best I can describe).
Antioxidants are terrific for preventing cancer, but are actually counterproductive once you have it. In short, no, I shouldn’t take it. If you message me your address, I will have something to send you. 🙂
Thanks again for your prayers and well wishes!
Cindy
