Six Week Follow-Up

Today was my 6-week follow up with Dr. Coscio.  She’s my oncologist.  I find it interesting that every time I come in they ask me if I have fallen yet.  Apparently it is not a matter of if, but when.  This is due to the neuropathy that sets in in the hands and feet.  I have had pretty good luck with that so far.   I played the piano at church last week, and while I didn’t perform up to my greatest expectations, I could still feel the keys beneath my fingers.  That was a good feeling!

The vertigo, however, and blurred vision has now lasted for more than two weeks.  Maybe three.  Some days are worse than others.  When Dr. Coscio had me lie back on the table she confirmed it, as my eyes started twitching and the room began spinning.  She was concerned enough to order an MRI, but she is fairly certain it is an effect of the chemo.  She thinks the nerves in my inner ears may be experiencing neuropathy, but usually that doesn’t happen until after the hands and feet.  The MRI will take place next Thursday evening right after my chemo treatment.  The good news is, they can access the same IV when I get the MRI, so it means only one needle prick for the day.  The other good news is, I have never gotten vertigo when I’m driving. 🙂  Antivert will be added to my medicines to treat for vertigo.

Otherwise, all is well and the cancer is still shrinking.  Have you ever had vertigo?
