Elizabeth is stoked…

I went in a little earlier today for my chemo, so we were out in a more reasonable time.  I had a new nurse this time, a British woman named Deborah.  Typically it’s either Angenette or Cathy.  There are eight nurses in the infusion rooms so I am trying to learn them all by name so I can pray for them.  I bet their job must be tough at times.

The social worker (Suki) came by to see me, as she does from time to time, to check on how I am doing.  I mentioned to her that it has proven difficult picking up Elizabeth from her Track practice after school.  One day we forgot to remind her to ride the bus on a treatment day, so the coach had to find her a ride home.  Another example, yesterday my doctor’s visit took longer than expected because they were checking my vertigo and scheduling an MRI, so I made her wait 30 minutes in the cold, rainy weather.  (Tim was flying home from the snowy north, but I’ll let him tell you that story.)  Needless to say, a mother feels a bit guilty when she isn’t there to care for her little girl.

Suki told me about the DMV opportunity for Elizabeth to get her license at the age of 15.  Apparently they permit early licensing for young teens who have a hardship case, e.g. in the case of illness at home.  All I have to do is fill out a paper, have my doctor fill out a paper, and she could be driving by herself at the age of 15.  Of course we will get her lessons first, but needless to say, Elizabeth is stoked!   If this works out, Tim could take me to treatment, and she could drive herself home from practice.  Or she could get a summer job and drive herself to work.  If she had her license, this could be one less worry on my plate.  It is another possible God-send.

Thank you Lord for Suki.  She seems to come by at just the right moments.  You know what is best, and you are providing for all our needs.

It was a blessing when Amber learned to drive and she got her license with school and cheerleading and most time I was working long hours or two jobs. I felt guilty too. I think about all of you so much and love you lots. Elizabeth will enjoy driving and Dad buy her a really cool car!!

God’s perfect timing once again! How cool for Elizabeth…start telling her what you are watching for and anticipating the other drivers to do. Why you hesitate hitting the gas when the light turns green, etc. It will help with that “experience” that mature drivers have. Have her pay attention and “drive” with you.
