God’s Timetable

It’s official, my surgery has been postponed.  That word was hard to hear, but while disappointing at first, I am glad our timetable is in God’s hands.

So, here’s the new schedule … as of today.

June 20th (Tomorrow) … I get my final 3-hour infusion of FEC, as long as my blood count is back up.  I believe it will happen.  You know, the great thing about blogs is I can always blog another update tomorrow if it changes!

July 17th …. Surgery… a “radical mastectomy.” It is … surreal.  At times I wish I could wake up and discover this is all a bad dream.  The waiting is the worse part, but again I know God is in control.  And it seems time is flying by, so I’m sure it will be here before we know it.  I am ready, and I just want to get it over with.

July 17th—-Surgeons don’t ask you when you would like to come in.  They just call you and tell you when it’s scheduled.  For a couple of planners, this was a little hard to take.  It didn’t fit into our neatly wrapped schedule and timed arrival of all our friends we had coming to visit.  I was looking forward to some “girl time” with my college roomie.  But, as it turns out, this is the exact same day our good friends from Florida are flying into town.  Coincidence?  God’s timing is never a coincidence.  I trust His plan is perfect.

So Rob and Dawn will be here while I’m in the hospital and for a few days after I come home.  They were very accommodating when they heard the news of my postponement, and of course they still plan to come in spite of the change.  Such good friends, they want to come and support us during this time.  While we had hoped for a visit with a recovered Cindy, their presence will provide great encouragement and support during surgery and the immediate recovery that follows.  They will be here for about 5 days, so we will put them to work cooking their famous meals!  I’m sure they will read this, so I want to say publicly – THANK YOU for your friendship.

And Jena, I’m sure the Lord will find another girl time for me and my roomie to visit.  We will make it happen. 🙂  (Aside, spell-check keeps trying to change “roomie” into “rookie.”  I guess we are all just rookies at this when you think about it.)  I do have some ideas that could involve you, me and a few boutiques.  Let’s talk.

August 1 …. I was hoping to head to Dallas for a celebration of a huge work project.  Our program recently achieved accreditation and it’s a big deal.  We are now the largest COAMFTE accredited Marriage and Family Therapy program in the United States, and I’m the Chair.  We’ll just have to wait and see how I’m feeling, and there is no pressure mind you, but they will have a room waiting for me in the hopes I can make it.

August 8th (or so) —- back to work.  I know, we can’t always “plan” these things, but at this point I’m only scheduling two weeks off.  If I sit around at home with nothing to do I’ll go stir crazy, so I might as well be productive if I’m feeling up to it.  At least I don’t have to drive to the office. :o)

August – September … I’m not sure exactly when it will start, but I go for radiation daily for 6 weeks.

Well, these are my best-laid plans for the summer.  Not exactly the fun in the sun I would normally dream of, but in the words of Sir Winston Churchill, “It is always wise to look ahead, but difficult to look further than you can see.”

With blurry eyes, I’ll keep you posted.

Hoping I could help somehow, too. Also, I don’t know a current email or phone number for you, can you email me?

Thank you for the update Cindy. Maybe we can get down to you while Rob and Dawn are there.
