Whew. I just listened to my voice message from Dr. Rourke’s office. “We got your CT scan back and everything looked fine, so we will proceed with surgery as planned.” That is a relief. Impressive turnaround time from this morning’s test! Answers to prayers sometimes come quickly!
The family is scattered, so we are communicating through texting and phone calls.
Elizabeth is in Oklahoma City at a teen leadership conference. They are learning to lead, and completing service projects in the day as well. At this very moment a text arrived from her, “just took down a house.” Why? I asked. “Tornado ruined it.” They are a part of the demolition crew cleaning up after the tornadoes that recently hit the area. I believe this event will change her perspective exponentially.
Tim will be spending tonight in Beaumont, Texas. He has a Board meeting tomorrow, then he’ll be home in time for dinner. He invited me to tag along, but I can work better from home than from a hotel room. If he were going to the beach, I might have been tempted. 🙂
Bryan is home, so I’m not completely alone. He is working the evening/night shift; we shared a few minutes between teleconferences before he headed off to work. His routine is to sleep until mid-morning (he gets off work after midnight), eat a bowl of cereal, watch a movie or a TV show, hug his mom, ask “what’s for lunch?”, eat some lunch, then head off to work. Doing laundry fits in during the off-days as well. Having him home is not at all a burden. I like having him here; we hope he stays a while. He is saving for when he starts his next chapter in life.
The dog is laying on her bed next to my desk while I work in my office. Occasionally we will venture outside into the heat so she can do her business, or we’ll sit on the porch swing in the cool of the morning while I read my Bible and drink my tea. By the looks of her twitching legs she is turning circles even while she sleeps! Do animals dream? Hmm.
My day is spent on the phone and in Adobe Connect when I’m not getting labs drawn or running through the CT machine. Web conferencing with faculty, administrators, and other support staff at the university. Working in an online environment may sound like it requires very little effort. In reality mine is a very busy job demanding a great deal of organizing, coordinating, leading, casting vision, balancing the business, managing talent, and more. I love what I do, and it keeps my mind occupied. I was going to say “sharp,” but I’m not so sure my mind is still sharp! I am looking forward to some time off, even if it is due to recovering from surgery.
Happy Hump Day everyone!
