A Quick Trip

Life imitates art.

Life imitates art.

This week is Elizabeth’s Spring Break, so we took a little trip to Arkansas to visit Tim’s mom and family between chemo treatments.  His mom looks great!  She is sharp and told some of the funniest stories about Tim and his childhood.

Elizabeth and Mama

It was a joy to walk through the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art together.  We also visited parts of downtown Fayetteville I have never seen before.  It is a quaint area of town.  Unique shops provided relief from the cold weather.  The French Antiquities entertained with French music while we browsed through books, china and other interesting knick knacks.  A few doors down a boutique of exotic wools from around the world inhabited a black cat, which we learned was a stray rescued by the shop owner.  She knitted a sweater the entire time Elizabeth and I felt the textures of yak, mink and more.

Tim and I enjoyed a lemon tart from the local bread shop, reminiscent of our tenure in Australia although not nearly as tasty.   Elizabeth and her Mama shared a rather large cream puff.  It was the largest I’ve ever seen, actually.  Probably three or four times the size of the last cream puff I recall.  This cream puff changed my perspective as far as cream puffs go.  It was so large that one could hardly refer to a dainty person as a “cream puff” in the notable, derogatory sense.  Covered in chocolate and filled with cream, it would compliment anyone associated with its designation.  My only regret is that I did not take a picture of the cream puffs and other pastries displayed in the cafe.

A quick trip, but well worth it.  We love you Ruth Ann!
