Corpus Christi

Come and sit a spell…

Our hands-on ministry has been quite fruitful here!  It started with breakfast on Saturday of last week, where we met with multiple pastors and their wives.  We have seven churches in the Corpus area (Tim can correct me later if I’m incorrect).

Crosspoint Church

Sunday morning  we worshipped with excellent music by the Crosspoint band.  They have a great thing going in their church!  The building leaves an avant garde impression with the converted warehouse auditorium, theatre seating, high ceilings, brick walls, cajón box drum, full band and light trees to adorn the stage.

Pastor Israel speaks with passion.

Visiting this church reminded me of our mission trip to Mexico City in 1991.

Elizabeth had the opportunity to spend an evening with two new friends (Shannon and Samantha) while Tim and I went to an all-Spanish speaking service Sunday night.  This is where Pastor Israel is ministering to his community.  While we couldn’t understand the entire message, we did appreciate his sense of humor as the people laughed at various times throughout the night, and felt his sincere spirit as eyes fixed on every word.

Tim led a leadership conference at Pastor Ray Hodges’ church (Crosspoint) Wednesday night.  Communion was a special event, and again the worship was incredible.  As a musician, I appreciated the musical dynamics, smooth transition from song to song, and leading of the people into the presence of God.  This takes talent as well as dedication. We believe God has great things in store for this young congregation!

I didn’t know the lights were on wind turbines until I looked at the picture.

As a bonus we have enjoyed real Mexican food, and the weather has been quite spectacular.  Friday night displayed a lightning show in the distance. It wasn’t completely by accident we planned our trip to the beach in the fall!

Care to join us for a picnic?

We are actually staying in Portland, across the bay from Corpus Christi.  Interesting factoid: the three Portland cities (Texas, Oregon and Maine) create an almost perfect triangle. There are many photo ops.
Here are a few of my favs.
We are here through the end of next week.

Corpus Christi across the bay.
