After eight days of blue skies and dry weather, Mother Nature decided to test our rain gear. It was a light rain out of northern Pennsylvania, for about an hour, and then back to our usual beautiful, blue skies. My rain suit kept me snug and dry. Warm? Well, we are getting warmer the further south we go.
Along our drive path was “the most unique Harley Davidson store in the world.” Well, we had to see that, of course. People in Pennsylvania are not very helpful, or friendly. We needed to stop for a bathroom break, and Tim found a unique urinal fashioned like a motorcycle, so you can hold on while you go. The ladies’ room was nothing special. I discovered their water was turned off. Enough said.
An hour of driving through Amish country after lunch was pretty, but a bit disappointing. We were expecting scenes equivalent to those in The Witness but this community is not quite as condensed. A farm here and there, surrounded by regular houses and technology. This was the 3rd largest Amish community, apparently.
We crossed the northeast Ohio border in the morning. This is my home state (I was born in Middletown), but I don’t get up here very often. At one point Tim decided it would be a good idea to get off the Interstate.”Let’s take 11 South” he said. Well, it sounded like a good idea at the time, and I am always in favor of getting off the Interstate, until we realized we took a wrong turn. We were backtracking and ended up in Pennsylvania once again. It turned out good however, as we ended up on a scenic byway (7) which ran along the Ohio River. River homes and industry provided some interesting sites. Ohio is much prettier than I remember! I don’t think we spent much time in the northeastern part of the state while I was growing up.
Spending the night in Zanesville, Ohio. Three days to get home…
