MDAnderson hosted an event with an interactive art display, where patients and their families signed to “strike cancer,” as a part of Breast Cancer awareness month. As you know, I finished radiation on Tuesday; I got my port out Thursday afternoon, and the timing was appropriate to celebrate at the Marketplace that evening. What a week! Both my kids were there to join me. I missed getting a picture of Bryan before he had to run off to work, but it was great having them both with me while I signed the board. Actually, Bryan offered to pick up Elizabeth so I wouldn’t have to go back and forth after finishing up with the port, so they enjoyed some time together as well.
Here’s a link to a video that captures some of the event: Lighting The Woodlands Pink. The ladies from the Breast Friends support group (started by my radiation oncologist) signed first, followed by family members and loved ones of MDAnderson patients who filled in the gaps.
We met lots of women with amazing stories.
The concert was fun although we didn’t stay to the end. People watching on the lawn was an interesting endeavor as well. Only in The Woodlands have I seen lawn chairs with tables for two supporting wine glasses and plates of cheese alongside families with children playing on blankets, eating food from a local fast food restaurant. It was quite an adventure, and a fitting wrap-up to the past ten months of treatment.
À la prochaine (Until next time) …
