Yesterday Tim and I went for an ABC ride on the Harley. Knowing this would be the last ride for a while, I soaked in all the experience I could get. An early morning ride to breakfast and collect a few points were reminiscent of the last two summers. The past two Julys were spent traveling through the United States on a two-week ride. I miss it, and I look forward to next year when we can resume our “tradition.”
Life continues.
Today our family worshiped with one of Texas’ smaller congregations that is currently without a pastor. I lead worship and Tim preached the morning message. It was a meaningful experience, and the presence of the Lord was in that place. It felt good to get behind the piano again, sing to the Lord, and hear the congregation respond in like kind. They were very appreciative of the music and message. This was followed by lunch at one of our favorite Italian restaurants. It was fun getting to know some folks on a deeper level while listening to Elizabeth share each person’s national holiday that lands on their birthday. For the record, my national holiday is the “Teddy Bear Day.” The one that got the most laughs? “Use Even if The Seal is Broken Day.” Tim is meeting with the church board as I write, to discuss the next steps for securing a pastor. Prayers are needed for this little congregation with so much potential!
Conversations often turns to cancer, my surgery, someone else’s cancer, or some other aspect related to my illness. I have not said this out loud, but the thoughts have shown up in the back of my mind regarding potential risks of surgery. When the nurse told me on Friday of all potential risks, the unlikely possibility of damaged vocal cords due to the tube in my throat (uncommon but can happen) provided even more motivation to lead worship this morning.
“Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples” (Psalm 96:1,3).
Three more sleeps, and life continues.
